Difference Between Professional and Store-Bought Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifier

Ugh, high humidity. Not one of Man or Dog’s best friends. Humidity can feel nice during cold weather, but when it strikes here in Tennessee during our spring and summer seasons, we can be in for plenty of sweating and panting. (I’ll pant, you sweat.)

Humidity in the home can cause plenty of problems. Not only does high humidity make your home feel hotter, but it can promote mold and mildew growth which can affect your indoor air quality and make life pretty miserable for people with asthma and allergies. (The odor for mold and mildew is pretty bad too. Believe me … I’ve got a sharp sense of smell!)
You’ve got a way to combat humidity: dehumidifiers.

You’ve got a way to combat humidity: dehumidifiers. And now that we’re on that topic, I want to share with you some of the important differences between the portable dehumidifiers you can purchase in stores and the professional dehumidifiers our Russell & Abbott can install in your home.

The Store-Bought Dehumidifier

This seems like the quick-and-easy answer when you’re swimming in high humidity in your home. Portable dehumidifiers have appealing prices and you can just plop one down in a room and plug it into the wall socket. There you go! Simple.

Except … well, simple isn’t always better. When humidity is soaking your house, going with a store-bought dehumidifier will probably leave you feeling dissatisfied and damp.

With a portable dehumidifier, you only have a single-room method of combating humidity. That’s fine if only one room has high humidity—but not if most of the house feels muggy. You’ll have to lug the portable unit around to other rooms that need it or pay to purchase even more store-bought dehumidifiers. Soon, you’ll have shelled out what you might have otherwise paid to have a professional dehumidifier installed. Portable dehumidifiers also put noise into a room, take up floor space, lack precision humidity balance controls, and require some annoying maintenance: you have to drain out all the moisture the dehumidifier collects.

The Professional Dehumidifier

What do I mean by a “professional dehumidifier”? A professional dehumidifier is one that our trained technicians install into your home’s HVAC system.

Here’s what the professional dehumidifier can offer you that a store-bought one can’t:

  • More precise controls for balanced humidity.
  • Stays out of sight in the HVAC system, working quietly and not taking up living space.
  • Extends the life of your HVAC equipment as it makes the job of cooling your house much easier—you’ll give your AC a break.
  • Adds value to your home.

Give our team a call to find out how we can improve your home comfort with the installation of a professional dehumidifier.

Live worry-free,

Olive
