How Safe Is Your AC During This Heat?

Thermometer

As we head into the dog days of summer, I thought this may be an appropriate topic for us to discuss. The days continue to be hot, which causes me to pant a lot when I go for walks. We dog like to take our walks in the early morning or evening when it’s cool and we require lots of water if we are outside during the day. Thankfully, my owners allow me to stay cool indoors.

So how safe is your air conditioning during this heat? If you are worried that it may not survive this heatwave, I have some facts to help you out.

Regular maintenance can keep your AC in top shape

I love to point out the many benefits of providing regular maintenance as part of our Comfort Club Maintenance Programs. These visits allow us to catch and fix small issues before they turn into big expensive problems later. Regular cleaning and maintenance by our highly skilled professionals will keep your cooling system in tip-top shape on these hot days when it is needed the most.

One example that comes to mind is the negative effects that a dirty condenser coil can have on your system. Dirt and grime can collect over time making it harder for the coils to transfer heat from your home to the air outside. During regular summer maintenance, we clean these coils to make sure that your home stays cool and comfortable all summer long.

How you can help lower the stress on your AC

Even with regular maintenance on your AC, you don’t want to overstrain it if you don’t have to. During heat waves, I recommend taking these steps to lift some of the burdens from your air conditioning system:

  • Don’t set the thermostat lower than 78°F during the day.
  • Make good use of ceiling fans or any standing fans you have.
  • Avoid cooking or running heat-using appliances during the hottest part of the day.
  • Close drapes and blinds over sun-facing windows to keep out radiant heat.

At Russell & Abbott Heating and Cooling, your home comfort is our first priority.  Our team of professional technicians is ready to help when you have a problem with your AC. Call us for the air conditioning service in Farragut, TN for all your home comfort needs.

Live worry-free,
